psychotherapy

I work with clients via phone, video conferencing, and in-person sessions. I use secure, HIPAA-compliant systems for online sessions, messaging, and payment.

my approach

My clinical approach is informed by cognitive-behavioral, humanist, and feminist frameworks, as well as by current research on health and wellness. I view my work with clients as a collaborative process that empowers them rather than one that fosters their dependency upon me. I also situate client difficulties within their sociocultural context, which means that I attend to such factors as sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, classism and other societal forces that contribute to human suffering.

Therapy is the place to unpack the issues that are holding you back. It also serves as an incubator in which to grow the life that you want. We'll work strategically to help you to accomplish your goals, bolster your resilience, and leave you with tools tailored to your strengths, lifestyle and values.

clinical expertise and scholarship

I've long been interested in the study of gender, sexuality, queer theory, and feminist critiques of the practice of psychology, and those interests inform my work and worldview. I've published articles in The Counseling Psychologist, Psychology of Women Quarterly, Women & Therapy, and Contemporary Psychology. When I was a graduate student, my article on self-disclosure and the management of queer identities was published as an advocacy piece on the American Psychological Association's website. I was awarded a Vaid Fellowship by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force in New York and participated in the development of the American Psychological Association's Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Girls and Women. I've also presented workshops at Gender Odyssey and taught college courses in the psychology of gender, developmental psychology, abnormal psychology, and personality assessment.

I completed my PhD in Counseling Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin and my clinical internship at the University of Pennsylvania. I maintain a private practice as a licensed psychologist (TX License #33430) and wellness coach (American Council on Exercise #W58553). I am also a member of PSYPACT (Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology, APIT #19052), which enables me to work online with clients in 42 states. You can learn more about PSYPACT here.
