health coaching
I work with clients via phone, video conferencing, and in-person sessions. I use secure, HIPAA-compliant systems for online sessions, messaging, and payment.
Health coaching is for people who want to change their lifestyles in order to improve their physical or mental health. They're not sure how to start, or how to create a successful plan.
I work with individuals to capitalize on their motivation to change. For some, it's a recent diagnosis. For others, it's a desire for a better quality of life. I also help clients to target specific behaviors they want to start or stop, to identify barriers, and to brainstorm solutions. My job is to help you to create a plan that is doable and sustainable and that fits with your life. Though my license to practice psychology enables me to do this work with clients, I chose to gain additional training in the area of wellness via the American Council on Exercise (coaching certification #W58553).
Coaching differs from psychotherapy in that the emphasis is on developing healthy habits, as opposed to exploring the psychological roots of behavior, although in both scenarios we are dealing with clients holistically; our bodies impact our emotional states and psychological well-being, and our mood states can in turn influence lifestyle choices.
Many medical and mental health conditions respond well to even small changes in our day-to-day behaviors. Conditions impacted by lifestyle behaviors include:
• anxiety disorders
• arthritis
• body image and body dysphoria
• cardiovascular disease
• celiac disease
• depressive disorders
• diabetes
• eating disorders
• food allergies and intolerances
• high cholesterol
• hypertension
• insomnia
• obesity
• sleep apnea
