my approach

My approach is informed by cognitive-behavioral, humanist, and feminist frameworks, as well as by current research on health and wellness. I work collaboratively with clients, building on strengths.

Past models of therapy adhered to a medical model and focused on individual pathologies and diagnoses; the aim was to help patients better conform to societal norms. Modern psychotherapy is different. Psychologists view clients holistically and as equal partners. Clients and therapists work collaboratively to create and implement the client's agenda. Therapy should empower and energize clients, particularly amidst a larger cultural context that oftentimes disempowers, drains, and dehumanizes people.

The purpose of our work together will be for you to accomplish your goals, grow your resilience, and gain tools that are tailored to your preferences, lifestyle, and values -- the kind of work that should help keep you grounded in a rapidly changing, disorienting world.
