Welcome ~ I am a licensed psychologist and writer living in Austin, Texas. I created this website to introduce my services and to provide helpful information for clients, therapists, and other psychologically minded folks. Because I specialize in issues related to gender and sexuality, many of the resources listed here are devoted to those topics; however, you will also find information designed to enhance your overall mental health and to encourage your creativity and scholarship. Thank you for visiting. NEWS: A chapter I co-authored with my graduate school mentor, Lucia Gilbert, has been published in the latest edition of the Handbook of Counseling Psychology (Wiley: March 2008). The chapter summarizes research on career issues and the modern family. More details on this textbook are available here. ••• Austin colleague Katy Koonce and I presented at FTM 2007: Gender Odyssey, Aug. 31-Sept. 3, in Seattle, WA. In our first workshop, we met with parents of transgender children and youth to discuss coming out issues with regard to school settings and families. Our second workshop, with adult transmen and their partners, explored shifts in sexual orientation and practices as a result of medically transitioning from female to male.
A film I edited was selected to screen at the Translations Film Festival in Seattle as part of the Gender Odyssey conference. You can view the film here.
••• The American Psychological Association has now adopted Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Girls and Women. This is a ground-breaking event and the result of five years of hard work by many of the leading feminists in the field. As an invited graduate student, I had the honor of collaborating with many of my heroes on this project.
